JOHOR BARU: Some 178 less fortunate children were treated to a Hari Raya shopping spree courtesy of Aeon Tebrau City here.

The event was organised by the Malaysian Aeon Foundation (MAF) under the annual Sinar Kasih Ramadan programme.

It was held simultaneously at 11 Aeon outlets nationwide, with 346 children and 22 single parents.

One of the recipients, Nabila Othman, 11, said that she was happy to be able to personally pick a baju kurung for Hari Raya.

“My father passed away when I was two years old and my eldest brother buys Hari Raya clothes for me,” she said.

Mohd Syamil Azri Nasarudin, 11, said it would be his first year wearing a new baju Melayu for Hari Raya.

“My father is a labourer and his income is not enough for us to buy so much.

“My mother is a housewife and suffers from throat-related disease. She spends most of the time resting,” he said.

MAF president Datuk Abdullah Mohd Yusof said the foundation aimed to bring joy to the children.

The children also received RM50 each while single parents received RM150 each and a goodie bag filled with RM100 worth of basic necessities.
