THE five-storey Wisma Fo Yi building in Jalan Permatang Damar Laut, Penang, is now completed and ready to serve the community.
The RM8mil Fo Yi Medicare Centre on a 0.2ha site also has a two-storey car park among other medical facilities.
Fo Yi Haemodialysis Society chairman Ooi Teong Lam said the centre will be able to treat 180 kidney patients a month with its 30 dialysis machines by end of this year.
“Each patient only needs to pay RM20 per treatment, although the cost is RM90.
“The RM50 will be subsidised by the Health Ministry while a further RM20 will be subsidised by a special fund from the society,” he said at the centre’s opening recently.
Ooi added that the centre will also have physiotherapy rooms, a rejuvenation centre for stroke patients, a diabetes unit and a counselling centre for cancer patients when in full operation.
Also present were Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon and National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia chief executive officer Chua Hong Wee.
The society has helped more than 1,000 dialysis patients in the last 20 years. It has another centre operating in Jalan Hamilton.
