HULU Selangor District Council (MDHS) is optimistic that the numerous attractions in the district combined with the programmes it has lined up for Visit Hulu Selangor Year 2017 will garner at least 700,000 tourists this year.

Council president Noraini Roslan said Hulu Selangor had many tourist attractions such as waterfalls in Serendah, Sungai Chiling and Sungai Selangor, a fish sanctuary and hot springs in Kuala Kubu Baru (KKB), Hulu Tamu and Kerling aside from numerous heritage buildings.

“I fell in love with the district after seeing the beautiful scenery and what nature here has to offer.

“KKB town has a rich history with so many cultures and things to see, including an orang asli settlement. Hulu Selangor is a must-visit district.

“It is so diverse and nature lovers will appreciate the lush forest, pristine waterfalls and greenery here.

“As a district, we focus on ecotourism,” she said, adding that the council had organised a roadshow at IOI City Mall in Putrajaya over the weekend to promote tourism in the district.

Noraini launched the Visit Hulu Selangor Year 2017 together with Tourism Selangor general manager Noorul Ashikin Mohd Din and Kuala Kubu Baru assemblyman Lee Kee Hiong.

There were booths promoting resorts and tours.

Last month, there was the KKB Glow Run held in Kuala Kubu Baru town with more than 1,500 participants running at night wearing glow-in-the-dark items.

There was also the Hulu Selangor Photo Hunt that concluded on Sunday.

A Birds Painting contest for primary and secondary schoolchildren is ongoing until April 15.

MDHS will hold the Wings of KKB Selangor International Bird Race 2017 (April 21 to 23), Larian Raja Bukit Highlander Series (May 13 and 14), MDHS Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House (July 15), King of Mountain Challenge (Aug 27), Sungai Selangor Carnival (Oct 28) and KKB Art Festival (Nov 25 and 26).

Noraini said it was especially vital to preserve nature here because the district was the one of the main sources of raw water for consumers in the Klang Valley.

“The district of Hulu Selangor is as big as the state of Malacca; it has tourism potential. It will take a person nearly a year to visit all the tourist sites here,” she said.

Meanwhile, Noorul said Selangor aimed to get 7.4 million tourists this year.

“Of this number, about two million tourists are expected to visit the districts of Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor and Sabak Bernam.

“And with numerous activities lined up in Hulu Selangor, MDHS can achieve its targeted numbers easily,” she said, adding that the council staff had been working hard to promote the district this year.
