TWELVE Tamil schools in Penang are looking forward to sprucing up facilities in the schools after receiving a total of RM930,000 from the Federal Government.
From upgrading various facilities and maintenance repairs, the schools will also be able to develop their sports facilities.
This is under the 2017 Budget allocations, in which RM16.5mil had been distributed to 251 Tamil schools nationwide, said Deputy Education Minister Datuk P. Kamalanathan.
He presented the cheques to four of the schools during a presentation ceremony at SJKT Perai on Wednesday.
SJKT Perai and SJKT Ladang Prye each received RM50,000 for repairs and to upgrade existing facilities while SJKT Sungai Ara and SJKT Ladang Malakoff each received RM200,000 to develop their sports centres.
The other schools were SJKT Ramakrishna, SJKT Ladang Transkrian, SJKT Ladang Sempah, SJKT Ladang Jawi, SJKT Ladang Changkat, SJKT Ladang Krian, SJKT Ladang Juru and SJKT Ladang Alma.
Kamalanathan said the Ministry had a special school package plan for additional buildings and schools in new locations.
Through the plan, the new RM4.7mil building for SJKT Ramakrishna was almost ready, the RM4.14mil building for SJKT Mak Mandin was 30% completed, SJKT Ladang Valdor’s RM9.65mil extension was 25% completed and SJKT Sungai Bakap received RM3.5mil to build a new block.
He said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak allocated RM50mil for Tamil schools’ maintenance and development in the Budget last October.
