MIRI: A country music extravaganza, which will be held in Miri this weekend, will also provide an opportunity for the Penans to market their handicrafts.
Some 4,000 music lovers from here and overseas are expected to attend the concert at Parkcity Everly Hotel beachfront.
Festival organisers – Place Borneo Sdn Bhd and volunteer group Helping Hands Penan yesterday paid a courtesy call to Miri mayor Adam Yii.
Yii said he was glad to see the Penans being given a chance to showcase their products at this music festival.
He said famous bands from the country and overseas would converge here to impart their skills to the young and to mesmerise music lovers with a grand concert.
“We expect music lovers from the US, UK, Brunei, Australia, the Philippines and Indonesia to be here.
“The organisers are also using the event to help promote Penan handicrafts.
“The Helping Hands Penan is a volunteer body helping the Penans in education and jobs.
“It is good to see this music fest used as a venue to promote local products too,” he said.
The local and foreign bands will arrive in the city by Friday.
