A CHEF had a one-ton chariot kavadi connected to his back with sharp hooks and pulled it with two friends to pray for the swift recovery of his ailing mother on Thaipusam.

Jeffrey Kang, 34, and his friends were also hooked with multiple mini paal kodam (silver milk pots) on their torsos and had their mouths skewered with spears to fulfil their penances as they pulled the chariot from Lorong Kulit to Jalan Kebun Bunga in Penang.
