MIRI: A 60-year-old man, believed to be a longhouse chief and his partner, a 41-year-old woman have been arrested for cheating.
The suspects were nabbed in a hotel in Bintulu, 250km from here.
Miri police chief Asst Comm Khoo Leng Huat confirmed the arrests.
“The two are being placed under remand for further investigation.
“They are suspected of being involved in a syndicate that cheated people and committing bogus land transactions.
The police seized RM18,500 in cash and jewelleries worth RM 20,000 as well as cheques and handphones from the suspects.
“We have also confiscated maps and land documents and paraphernalia related to their shaman services,” ACP Khoo told reporters here.
Also seized were branded watches and a car belonging to the suspects.
The suspects are being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
