HOTEL Jen Penang by Shangri-La has unveiled its Club Lounge, marking the completion of the first phase of its enhancement programme.

The lounge is located 16 floors up and overlooking the breath-taking view of George Town,

Hotel general manager Tane Picken said the hotel was under-going a three-phase enhancement programme that started last July and set to be completed by the end of June this year.

The programme, he added, encompassed all guest rooms and suites; public spaces, including the lobby, Club Lounge and the corridors; the lobby and reception desk, along with Hotel Jen’s signature On-The-Go lobby coffee shop.

The hotel’s associates, partners and media friends were treated recently to a special cocktail party in the newly transformed Club Lounge, that included a tour of the newly redesigned guest rooms.

Picken said none of the 443 rooms would be the same, with locally curated wallpaper design highlighting Penang themes.

“Each room includes thoughtful touches, such as free WiFi, USB ports, universal plugs and walk-in showers.

“Executive rooms and suites also include a stylish pull-out sofa bed, which can easily accommodate a third person in the same room,” he said.

Picken noted that guests on the Club floor have complimentary access to the Club Lounge, which opens from 6.30am to 11pm daily.

The access includes a host of enhanced privileges, namely exclusive check-in and check-out, free drinks and snacks all-day long, and a sumptuous breakfast, and evening drinks and canapés (with free-flow of spirits, wines, beers) from 5pm to 7pm.

Other privileges include pressing of one piece of clothing when the guest needs to dress to impress, two-hour complimentary use of the meeting room per stay (bookable in advance) and desk for Internet surfing.

Picken, who has been in the hospitality industry for 16 years and was appointed general manager of Hotel Jen Penang last month, said the hotel’s management was excited and eager to bring new life to the hotel in the unique Unesco World Heritage City of George Town.

“This is an exciting time for Hotel Jen Penang as we have just completed the first phase of the enhancement programme.

“The hotel has been around for 30 years and my hopes and dreams would be to make Hotel Jen Penang a recognised hotel, a place where people want to be, and to be the top hotel in the city,” said Picken, who hails from South Africa.

Hotel Jen Penang falls under the umbrella of Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, one of the world’s premier hotel companies, which currently owns and/or manages 98 hotels.
