SIBU: Newly appointed Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) president Sempurai Petrus and deputy president Robert Lau Hui Yew agree that SibuJaya is a very important township for the council.
In a site visit to the township yesterday, both Petrus and Lau said they wanted to go to the ground to get a better idea of what was needed to make the township better for the people. The duo was accompanied by the council’s engineer Goh Thiam Ho.
“I have repeatedly said that fast-growing township such as SibuJaya and emerging township such as Selangau are very important to SRDC,” Petrus said adding that this was due to high concentration of residents in the township.
Petrus said he was glad to be working with Lau, whom he termed as his “partner in vision and mission.”
“Both Lau and I have mutual respect for each other and we share the same passion for people. We know that SibuJaya is important and we both want to do our best,” he said.
Both Petrus and Lau came from Sacred Heart Secondary School. “I guess being in an all boys’ school enables you to relate to each other faster and better,” Petrus said.
On SibuJaya’s development, Lau urges all parties not to be carried away by their respective agendas.
“There is only one agenda as far as I am concerned. It is the orderly development of SibuJaya with the people’s interest upheld at all times,” he added.
Top priorty for the team will be improving traffic flow to ease congestion at peak hours in the township, which shelters some 30,000 people.
The team will also look into social needs of the Sibujaya residents.
