Sponsorship for NiE programme extended

SIBU: Ta Ann Holdings Bhd, a timber and oil palm conglomerate, has extended its sponsorship for the The Star’s NiE programme this year, the seventh in a row.

Students and teachers from the 20 secondary schools in the divisions, which also include those in Mukah and Daro, will continue to benefit from the programme. The sole objective of NiE programme is to upgrade the standard of English.

Altogether, 10,000 copies of the NiE pullout would be distributed to these schools starting from June 22 to Nov 2.

The sponsorship was presented over by Ta Ann chief operating officer Ling Hong Hin to the Star’s assistant manager (Audience management) Kong Hua Ming.

Kong said The Star – the people’s paper, was appreciative of Ta Ann’s commitment to collaboration that helped students excel in the language.

He said apart from the NiE pullout, the package now came with the staff@school pullout – where articles are written by teenagers in a segment targetted at younger readers.

“NiE is good as it inculcate reading habit among the students. This will help improve their English proficiency. We need your feedback so that we can help improve the programme further,” he added.

Ling said a good command of the English language was of paramount importance as the state government had also acknowledged its usefullness.
