TOLL collection at three toll plazas along the 14km Butterworth Outer Ring Road (BORR) will go cashless beginning today.
Lingkaran Luar Butterworth (Penang) Sdn Bhd general manager (operations) Adnan Ariffin reminded motorists that they would only be able to use the Touch N’ Go card with sufficient credit or have the card inside a functioning SmartTag device to pass through the toll gates at Prai, Bagan Ajam and Sungai Nyior.
He said 60,000 vehicles pass the three toll plazas daily of which an estimated 15% to 20% used cash.
To help those without the Touch N’Go card, he said two toll booths at each plaza would sell the card for a limited time period round-the-clock.
“Motorists could also top up their Touch N’ Go credit at these booths,” Adnan said, adding that the card and SmartTag device could also be bought at the BORR customer service centre near the Bajan Ajam toll plaza.
He said 6,000 Touch N’ Go cards would be given out free at BORR but with a minimum RM5 credit purchase. There is also a promotion price for the SmartTag at RM104.95 each inclusive of GST with a minimum credit purchase of RM20.
BORR is among five highways and the second Penang Bridge which goes cashless today, joining a number of other links which had implemented electronic toll payment earlier.
The other four highways are the Sungai Besi Highway, Kajang SILK Highway, South Klang Valley Expressway and the New North Klang Straits Bypass.
It was reported earlier that Class 1 vehicles (cars) would enjoy a 10% rebate between June 1 and July 31 on the five highways and bridge and that a total of 108,500 Touch N’ Go cards will be given out for free at these links with a minimum credit purchase of RM5. Lingkaran Luar is the concessionaire for BORR.
