Klang municipality to use new tool to catch stray dogs

AFTER being successful in catching thousands of stray dogs with the use of the S-loop trap, the Klang Municipal Council has introduced another tool called Skynet-01 to nab strays.

The Skynet-01 which uses a fish net is a pain-free method to trap the strays, said council president Datuk Mohd Yazid Bidin.

Mohd Yazid said the strays could be caught without much force as the net would break the momentum of the dogs as they attempt to escape capture by council staff.

He said once the dog stepped on the net, the dog would slow down and council staff would then be able to catch them without hurting the animal.

“Our men will position themselves at strategic spots and spread the net out as soon as the dog was about to reach the net.

“Upon breaking the run, the dog will be caught manually by the enforcement personnel,” he said, adding that the net would be spread out with a push of a button on the device.

The Skynet-01, he added was an improvisation to the S-loop which was also designed by the council.

“The S-loop is effective in catching a group of dogs but the Skynet-01 method is more suitable to nab lone strays,” he added.

Mohd Yazid said 2,856 stray dogs had been nabbed from 724 operations so far this year.

Last year, a total of 7,697 dogs were caught after receiving 2,199 complaints from residents, he added.

He also said so far only 99 owners in Klang had obtained licence from the council for their dogs.
