THE LACK of monitoring and effective enforcement by the Perak Forestry Department in logging areas resulted in illegal logging and encroachment taking place last year.

The Auditor General’s Report 2015 states that despite Perak having good timber management practices in place and achieving the state’s harvesting, premium and royalty targets, there are still some weaknesses that enabled logging licensee to commit offences.
