Maimunah: We received complaints of businesses placing all kinds of obstacles outside their premises

IT WILL soon be mandatoryfor operators of six types of businesses in Seberang Prai to rent two vehicle parking lots outside their premises.

The ruling is applicable from June for those who have yet to renew their yearly licences while those who had already renewed their licences would have to rent the lots upon their next renewal.

Seberang Prai Municipal Council (MPSP) president Datuk Maimunah Mohd Sharif saidthe council endorsed the ruling during its full council meeting on Friday.

“We discussed the matter at length after receivingcomplaints from the publicthat many businesses have placed all kinds of obstaclesoutside their premises,” she said after chairing the meeting at the MPSP headquarters in Bandar Perda, Bukit Mertajam.

Also present was councilsecretary Rozali Mohamud.

Maimunah said the sixbusinesses identified are tyre shops, car accessories outlets, vehicle workshops, shops selling motorcycles, clinics, and budget hotels, including motels.

She said each operator would be charged RM3,840 per year for the two parking lots when they renew their MPSP business licences or apply for a new one if they are new operators of such businesses.

For those who had renewed their licences, she said theruling would only be mandatory from their next renewal.

Maimunah explained that the council was making the ruling because council enforcement personnel could only remove obstacles such as pieces of wood, drums and chairs placed on the parking lots.

“The operators deny placing the obstacles and there is no proof to take action against them,” she added.
