About 200 people from World Mission Society Church of God cleaned up Taman Connaught Phase 4 in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur recently.
Bandar Tun Razak MCA chairman Datuk Chew Yin Keen, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) Bandar Tun Razak branch office head Ismadi Sakirin and Taman Connaught Phase 4 Residents Committee chairman Tan Wang Keah were also at the clean-up exercise.
The campaign was aimed at creating a clean environment and comfortable living space for residents.
DBKL provided refreshments as well as cleaning equipment such as garbage bags, brooms and gloves.
The volunteers removed aged trees that posed a danger and cleared away litter including cigarette butts, bottles, paper cups and disposable containers.
They cleaned the drains and got rid of stagnant water to prevent dengue.
“We can make this area a mosquito-free zone as we do our part for our community and society,” said World Mission Society Church of God Malaysia’s Pastor James.
Unity is really important, said Chew.
“We must stay together and help each other and live in harmony, especially for our children.
“For this reason, I will always encourage clean-up campaigns.
“If we do this more often, I am sure it will bring peace in the world.
“Thank you for your hard work,” said Chew.
Residents from the area also took part in the clean-up effort and in total, participants filled six three-ton trucks with the rubbish and trees they cleared away.
Last year, the church held a clean-up campaign at Pekan Ampang Street in Ampang as well as a blood donation drive in Petaling Jaya and Kota Kinabalu.
