KUCHING: Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof says the issue of him contesting in the coming state election does not arise.
Fadillah, who is also Parti Pesaka Bumiputera's (PBB) Youth wing chief, said this when asked about rumours that he would be asked to contest at the next state election so that he could become a member of the state cabinet.
“That is authority of the Chief Minister, if they want me to serve the state, I will do so, but for now I am still a member of Parliament and a federal cabinet minister," he told reporters after chairing PBB's Youth Wing meeting at the party's headquarters on Saturday.
He said the Youth Wing was ready to face the upcoming state election and to ensure a huge victory for Barisan Nasional (BN).
“We have been working since the last election, and the election is just a formality," he said, adding that Saturday's meeting discussed the programmes which would be implemented next year in preparations for the state election.
He said the PBB Youth were serious in their early preparations.
Fadillah was confident that at least one new candidate would be selected from Youth Wing.
“We believe the Youth Wing will be given the opportunity, but it is the prerogative of the Chief Minister as the state BN chairman, and our leaders know what is best for the party, the people, and the state," he said. – Bernama
