FOURTEEN Tamil primary schools in Penang received RM505,000 in allocation under the Education Ministry’s phase nine of the ‘Pakej Rancangan Khas 2013’.
Deputy Education Minister P. Kamalanathan said the aid was mainly for the upgrading and repair of the schools.
“The aid is mostly for infrastructure works such as repairing of roofs, the upgrading of classrooms, school canteens, toilets and others.
“Earlier, I have also given out RM170,000 to three Tamil primary schools in Penang during phase two of the package in October.
“All in, a total of RM675,000 was distributed to 17 Tamil primary schools in Penang,” Kamalanathan said after distributing the aid to the 14 primary schools at the state Education Department in Bukit Jambul on Friday.
The recipients were SJK(T) Sungai Ara (RM30,000), SJK(T) Ladang Alma (RM50,000), SJK(T) Ladang Changkat (RM50,000), SJK(T) Ladang Juru (RM60,000), SJK(T) Ladang Mayfield (RM70,000), SJK(T) Ladang Byram (RM50,000), SJK(T) Ladang Prye (RM50,000) and SJK(T) Ladang Jawi (RM15,000).
Also receiving the aid were SJK(T) Ladang Malakoff (RM30,000), SJK(T) Ladang Sempah (RM20,000), SJK(T) Ladang Transkrian (RM30,000), SJK(T) Ladang Valdor (RM10,000), SJK(T) Prai (RM20,000) and SJK(T) Ramakrishna (RM20,000).
Kamalanathan said RM15.75mil had been distributed to 255 Tamil primary schools in Penang, Perak, Kedah, Johor, Selangor, Federal Territory, Malacca and Negri Sembilan under this package.
Also present was state Education Department director Shaari Osman.
