THE end of the SPM signifies the start of a brand new chapter in one’s academic journey. One of the challenges that almost every school leaver has to encounter is the decision about their pathway to further studies.
More often than not, they will find themselves at a crossroad deciding between various study options.Well, look no further than Disted College Penang which has a wide range of high quality courses ranging from certificate to bachelor’s degrees in pre-U studies, business, hospitality, psychology, IT and engineering.
For those keen on pre-U studies, Disted offers the Cambridge A-Level and the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE International) programmes.
The programmes are globally-recognised qualifications that allow students to advance to undergraduate studies in local universities as well as institutions overseas. They equip students with solid and balanced academic grounding as they progress to degrees in medicine, pharmacy, accounting, engineering, computer science, law, business and psychology, to name a few.
The Cambridge A-Level is a 100% exam-based programme and offered in both Science and Arts streams. In Science stream, students can combine their subject choices from mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology or further mathematics. Arts students can choose from accounting, business studies, economics, law or psychology.

For Science students, subject choices are biology, chemistry, physics, mathematical studies and specialist mathematics. Arts students may select from accounting studies, economics, IT studies, legal studies, Malay for background speakers, mathematical studies and psychology.
Both the Cambridge A-Level and SACE International are available in 12-month or 18-month durations to cater to students’ different learning pace and needs. Besides pre-U programmes, Disted also offers diploma studies in accounting, business, computing, engineering, creative multimedia and hospitality management. These programmes combine theoretical knowledge with current trends and practices to develop students with the relevant skills and knowledge for the industry.
Seven of the programmes come with a dual award qualification, presenting students with not one but two diplomas.
Eligible students will graduate with a Disted diploma and a UK-awarded Business and Technology Education Council Higher National Diploma (BTEC HND) which are recognised by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency and many leading universities worldwide.
The BTEC HND places emphasis on assignments, projects and practical learning. Students automatically study for BTEC HND qualifications when they commence their programmes at Disted without having to take up additional credit hours.
The diploma programmes generally take two years to complete while certain programmes include industrial training of two to four months, giving students opportunities to practise in the real world.
