BATU PAHAT: Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar said science and technology is an important factor in the nation’s development.

Sultan Ibrahim said that the country's ability to advance in the field would have a positive impact on the nation’s development and prosperity.

Sultan Ibrahim, who is also the Chancellor of Universiti Tun Hussein Onn (UTHM), pointed out that this is where professionals play an important role.

He added that he is proud that UTHM has successfully nurtured 20,000 graduates in various scientific and technological fields and which has brought about positive contributions to the country's development.

Sultan Ibrahim said this in his speech during UTHM’s 15th convocation ceremony held at the university on Oct 3.

"Besides making our society more knowledgeable and educated, our well-being and the prosperity that we have achieved now is due to the result of unity being practiced by all, no matter our race, ethnicity or religion," he said.

Sultan Ibrahim pointed out that living in a multi-racial society with different customs and faiths, the spirit of unity and high tolerance must be practiced by all members of the community.

"If this unity is not being taken care of, then it is possible for discord and strife that will destroy the harmony that we have here," he said.

Earlier, Sultan Ibrahim presented the Honorary Doctorate of Science award (Human Development) to Johor Islamic Religious Council adviser Datuk Nooh Gadut.
