DID you know that one of the leading diseases in Malaysia is coronary heart disease?

As such, it is timely that Nestle (M) Bhd is encouraging Malaysians to start taking charge of heart health.

In line with World Heart Day, heart health advocator Nestle Omega Plus has launched the new Nestle Omega Plus Ready-to-Drink UHT milk enriched with Acticol, developed to help one manage cholesterol levels.

Nestle (M) Bhd business executive manager for Milks, Ng Su Yen said high cholesterol was fast becoming a common condition in today’s health diaries.

“Malaysians today lead busy lifestyles and many tend to overlook their health conditions.

“It’s time we start taking responsibility and ownership of our own heart health,” said Ng, adding that the ratio of Malaysians diagnosed with high cholesterol was increasing as urbanisation progressed.

Acticol, a plant sterol, can be found in small amounts in many grains, vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts and seeds, explained the company’s corporate wellness manager Cher Siew Wei.

“It is a unique compound scientifically proven to reduce cholesterol as it prevents it from entering the bloodstream.

“With the new Nestle Omega Plus Ready-to-Drink UHT milk, you can keep healthy cholesterol levels and have the benefits of milk within a single serving,” said Cher.

A clinical study conducted by Nestle Research Centre in Switzerland has scientifically proven that consuming 1.2g of plant sterols a day can help lower cholesterol levels.

The American Heart Association and British Heart Foundation have also acknowledged the efficacy of plant sterols.

To help keep cholesterol levels at bay, one is recommended to consume two packets of Nestle Omega Plus Ready-to-Drink UHT milk enriched with Acticol a day, said to provide 1.2g of plant sterols, to be paired with regular exercise and a balanced diet.

At the launch, guests took part in fun activities, learned about natural preventive measures to cholesterol management, took the Nestle Omega Plus Heart Age Calculator challenge and had their cholesterol levels checked.

“There are no excuses for Malaysians to not take charge of their heart health as they can now better manage their cholesterol levels on-the-go,” said Ng.

The Nestle Omega Plus Ready-to-Drink UHT milk enriched with Acticol is available in a pack of six at the retail price of RM12.55 (inclusive of GST) at all major hypermarkets and supermarkets.

On another note, Nestle Omega Plus will also be organising the 14th annual World Heart Day Walk-A-Mile together with Yayasan Jantung Malaysia at Perdana Botanical Gardens on Sept 27.
