SIBUJAYA: The thunderous roar of four-wheel drive vehicles is expected to fill this award-winning township when more than 150 participants roll in tomorrow.
Under the joint organising chairmanship of Daniel Tang Nai Ung, Eddy Puah and Joseph Lau, the Sibu Jaya Thunder 4x4 Off Road Fun Challenge is supported by Sibu Rural District Council, Sibu 4WD Team, Saberkas Pelawan Branch and Sacred Heart 86ixers and hosted by Distrepark Sdn Bhd (developer of Sibu Jaya).
More than 150 participants from Kuching, Serian, Sri Aman, Saratok, Sibu, Bintulu and Miri have confirmed their attendance. A total of 30 four-wheel drive vehicles will take the challenge of climbing hills and obstacles.
“This is a very spectator-friendly event. The crowd can look forward to a thrilling time as the drivers display their skills and everyone will hold their breath in anticipation of spills,” Tang said.
Cautioning the public to stand well behind the cordoned off area, he said : “While all care has been taken to ensure the safety of the participants and there are emergency services teams on standby, we wish to remind everyone that this is an extreme motor sport and as such we must all take the necessary precautions to protect ourselves.”
The event will be flagged off by Sibu Rural District Council chairman councillor James Laju at 8.30am. The location is Block 5 Sibu Jaya Commercial Centre which is just next to the entrance of the township.
The full-day event is expected to end by 5pm.
