KUCHING: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between Univeristi Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) and Erican College involving academic collaboration.
Unimas vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi said such collaborative efforts would contribute to the value-added efforts in strengthening Unimas’ status as a comprehensive university, prevalent to the demands outlined in the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2015-2025.
“The collaboration between Unimas and Erican College through the sharing of data, information and expertise is in accordance with Erican’s capacity as an academic partner in the faculties offered by Unimas,” said Kadim.
Erican College is a private institute of higher learning established in 1994 by the Erican Education Group. It started the first English movement in Malaysia after noticing the 20-year language gap among the people.
Erican College managing director Eric Chong said for 25 years, it had successfully helped more than 250,000 Malaysians to master the English language. It hope to achieve one million successful learners by the year 2020.
“Today Erican is a comprehensive education provider. We offer not just language courses but also tertiary education, preschool education, corporate training, franchising overseas and we will be starting bilingual schools in other countries like China,” said Chong.
“I think the combination of academic excellence and business savvy can create great synergy for Unimas and Erican. We promise to promote and introduce Unimas to the many countries that we are active and already established a presence.”
The collaboration programme will commence in the new academic session in 2016-2017 with the first intake of students in February next year. – By AVA LAI
