SIBU: Sibu Specialist Medical Centre, a member of KPJ Healthcare Bhd, is on an expansion drive and is looking at recruiting more resident consultants.

Its medical director, Dr Wong Chya Wei, told reporters after officiating at the soft opening of its paediatric clinic yesterday that currently it had 12 resident consultants and another 10 visiting doctors.

Its present consultants include general physicians, general surgeons, ear, nose and throat specialists, radiologists and orthopedic surgeons.

“We are slowly expanding and is recruiting more doctors so as to provide a better and wider range of medical services to the people here,” he said.

The centre, he added, was also planning to set up a kidney dialysis centre as there was a need for it.

“Hopefully, by the end of this year or early next year, our dialysis centre will be ready. We will need to recruit appropriate specialists,” he revealed.

On the new paediatric clinic, Dr Wong said it would be manned by two young but experience paediatricians – Dr Lai Boon Foo and Dr Yek Kuing Wei – who had eight years’ experience in the field.

Executive director Mah Lai Heng concurred with Dr Wong, stressing that their objective was to bring in the right team.

She also welcomed feedbacks from the public on the services it provided.
