We cannot please everybody, says Shahrir

Johor Baru MP Tan Sri Shahrir Abd Samad speaking to reporters at a press conference after attending a bowling contest for the disabled in Johor Jaya, Johor Baru on April 12, 2015.

JOHOR BARU: Some people will never be satisfied with whatever answers that were provided by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak because they have already formed their own judgement.

Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club (BNBBC) chairman Tan Sri Shahrir Abd Samad said that there would always be someone who is unsatisfied and unhappy no matter how Najib addressed certain issues.

“It is expected for them to be unhappy with his answers. What to do? We cannot please everybody, more so when that person has already formed a judgement in his head about what he chooses to believe.

“If everybody always want to hear what they want to hear, they will never be satisfied with what ever answers provided by anyone,” he told a press conference on April 12.

The Johor Baru MP was asked to comment on the reactions from the people after Najib’s live television interview following former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s calls for him (Najib) to step down.

Shahrir added that although Najib had clarified that he was not involved in the murder of Mongolian model Altantuya and the court had passed its judgement, certain people still preferred to believe in speculations and claims.

“Dr Mahathir at one time believed Najib to the extend that he supported him to become the Prime Minister. Why does he not believe Najib’s words now?,” said the senior politician.

Meanwhile, Shahrir said that there were no voices in the Barisan Nasional MP line-up especially those from Umno calling for the resignation of the party’s top two leaders.

“Those are just fiction spread by certain people who want to ruffle the party’s feathers and to stir the waters. We cannot stop people from creating tales but it is not true,” he said.

Shahrir was commenting on the supposed calls from certain quarters for the resignation of Umno president Najib and his deputy Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
