SIBU: Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) will spend close to RM2mil to upgrade and resurface a total of 16 roads here.
Deputy chairman Datuk Andrew Wong told reporters during a site inspection that the road improvement work started off recently and would be completed by the end of April.
These roads included Jalan Abang Hj Openg, Jalan Mangkung, Lorong Mahsuri 1, Lorong Apor 3, Lorong Teratai 5, Lorong Tuah 5, Hose Lane, Lorong Pipit 2 sidelane, Lorong Cherry 12 and 14, Lorong Rejang Park 14, Jalan Teruntum, Jalan Medang, Lorong Merdeka 7 and Lorong Rejang Park 20.
He said the council had just completed similar work on a total of 46 roads under its jurisdiction which involved a cost of RM2.5mil.
On flash flood mitigation project, he said they had applied a sum of RM21mil from the state government to carry out on five areas.
They are Kampung Bahagia, Kampung Jeriah, Kampung Sentosa, the roundabout area in front of Oya Road Polyclinic, and Pahlawan Bus terminal commercial area.
“These projects are a joint recommendation from SMC, Public Works Department, Drainage and Irrigation Department and Sibu Rural District Council which was made before the Chinese New Year celebration,” he said.
Wong hoped the government would approve their application so that work could start soon.
