Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan residents have been urged to fly the Federal Territories flag in conjunction with FT Day this Saturday.
Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said this at the Kibar Bendera Wilayah Persekutuan campaign at Langkah Ceria Program @ Putrajaya in Precinct 3.
“I hope all citizens in the Federal Territories will fly the flag at government buildings, residences, commercial buildings and streetlight poles,” he said.
Tengku Adnan added that residents should emulate Indonesians who fly their national flag on Independence Day to show their patriotism.
“This spirit should be inculcated among Malaysians too,” he said.
Tengku Adnan added this year’s theme — “Wilayahku Ceria” — was aimed at encouraging a sense of belonging among residents.
It is also in line with the Federal Territories’ aim to be a cheerful, clean and beautiful place.
Tengku Adnan said this year’s celebration would be a simple affair because of austerity measures.
“We hope the allocation can be used for other programmes,” he added.
More than 5,000 people attended the launch at Dataran Putrajaya.
Also present were Federal Territories Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Adnan Md Ikhsan and Putrajaya Corporation president Tan Sri Aseh Che Mat.
