Four buildings and a lorry destroyed in fire

FIRE razed three shoplots and a house in Kampung Manis, Butterworth.

The blaze, which occurred at about midnight on Monday, also destroyed a three-tonne lorry parked outside one of the buildings.

Penang Fire and Rescue Department spokesman Mohd Azman Hussin said the department received a distress call at 12.06am yesterday.

“Four fire engines from the Prai fire station and a fire engine from Butterworth with a total of 25 personnel were despatched to put out the blaze.

“Forty-three voluntary firefighters also assisted in the operation. The fire was put out at 1.04am and the operation ended at 2.28am.

“Nobody was hurt in the incident. The cause of fire and amount of losses are still under investigation,” Mohd Azman said.
