Groups join hands to help flood victims

KUCHING: A charity drive for flood victims in Peninsular Malaysia will be organised at the Godown Amphitheatre here tomorrow.

Prayers and a moment of silence will also be observed for the victims of AirAsia flight QZ8501.

The event is jointly sponsored by Kelab Mirage Sarawak, Chung Hua Middle School No 1 Alumni Association Kuching, The Dance Academy, Kenwy Music and Art Academy, The Talent and Art Performing Centre, Miya Dance Studio and Tyng Dance Academy.

It aims to empower and inspire those affected by the recent tragedies through performance arts.

Charity organiser Datin Amar Kathryn Wee said people should be able to depend on one another in the face of disaster and offer comfort and support to the families going through difficult times.

“I am pleased to see that various organisations have come together to prepare for this event at such short notice. They have even started collecting donations to assist the flood victims in the hope of making the process of rebuilding their lives much smoother after the disaster.

“At the same time, Kenn Sound and Lighting will provide assistance for sound technics tomorrow night. It’s nice to see such an assuring sense of love within our community for those who are currently suffering,” she said.

She welcomed anyone willing to participate in offering kindness and prayers for those affected by the floods and AirAsia tragedy to attend the event, which begins at 8pm.
