The style pundits first declared that “pies are the new cupcakes” at the end of 2010, and various American media have since hopped on the pie truck.

That trend evolved into “hand pies are the new cupcakes”, and as recently as last year, mini sweet hand pies were listed among The Food Channel’s Top Ten Dessert Trends.
