WHO: Covid-19 deaths down by 95%, but XBB can reinfect more easily

The good news is that Covid-19 deaths have dropped significantly globally; the bad news is that the current dominant viral strains are more capable of evading the body’s defences to infect people. — AFP

The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Wednesday (Apr 27, 2023) that Covid-19 deaths had dropped by 95% since the start of the year, but warned that the SARS-CoV-2 virus was still on the move.

It said Covid-19 was here to stay and countries would have to learn how to manage its ongoing non-emergency effects, including post-Covid-19 condition or long Covid.
