Covid-19: Dos and don'ts for sex during this pandemic

The Covid-19 pandemic isn’t over, as Thailand’s public health ministry recently reminded people by issuing a list of nine tips for engaging in safe sex, in line with current hygiene precautions.

First and foremost though: People who are at a high risk of being in contact with someone who may have the SARS-CoV-2 virus, or recently contracted Covid-19 themselves, should forgo any sexual activities.

“Before deciding to have sex, one needs to consider the safety and the impact that this may cause to yourself and others in society as a priority,” says Thai public health official Dr Peerayuth Sanukul.

Among the safety recommendations is to use rubber gloves, condoms and dental dams to reduce contact with saliva and other types of secretions, as well as to wear a face mask and avoid kissing.

Anal sex and oral sex are highly discouraged, as the Thai government says they are more risky when it comes to spreading the coronavirus, and it encourages having sex as fast as possible.

The best positions, per the Thai government, are the ones where partners are not face-to-face, though it does not give any specific recommendations.

The Thai news outlet Thaiger, however, helpfully published a ”Coronasutra” chart showing positions that get the green light, including doggy style and several variations on the cow girl.

The infographic is not from the Thai health authority itself, the outlet clearly states, though it does follow the specified rules.

Oh, and of course: Wash your hands, and take a shower before and after if you can! – dpa
