SPARKS fly when an egg meets a sperm, scientists at Northwestern University in the United States have found. Their world-first images of these fireworks reveal that mammal eggs, when fertilised, release billions of zinc atoms, resulting in several periodic sparks, “orchestrated much like a symphony”.
