A multi-talented Malaysian artist travels to a showcase in Phoenix, Arizona, armed with her trusty camera.
IT IS finally happening; a huge step towards facilitating an important part of my journey as an artist.
Back in May, I submitted my portfolio online to be reviewed by the people behind RAW: natural born artists (which is touted as an independent arts organisation for artists, by artists).
Within a week, I received an invitation to participate in its showcase in the United States. How exciting is that?
For the uninitiated, RAW is an international community made up of creative individuals across the globe.
Its mission is to provide independent artists within the first 10 years of their career with the tools, resources and exposure needed to inspire and cultivate creativity.
Hence, RAW encourages the creative success of the many visionaries and storytellers of our generation and currently operates in nearly 60 cities across the United States, Australia, Canada and London.
RAW hand-picks and spotlights artistic talent in visual art, film, fashion, music, hair and make-up artistry, photography and performing art. Only a select few get to showcase with RAW.
Visitors and patrons know they will get the chance to see top quality artists at RAW shows and that’s the reputation and name they have built on.
Yours truly will be participating at the RAW Artist Showcase in Phoenix, Arizona entitled Encompass today, at the Monarch Theater in downtown Phoenix.
For my showcase, I will be presenting my fashion accessories and fine art photography. Each showcase has over 40 artists involved and will be attended by retailers, buyers and the press.
The excitement and anticipation was overwhelming. I started packing a month in advance, juggling between work and my art and basically living a hectic lifestyle.
In fact, I was still packing right till the moment I was to leave. So there I was, exhausted and half-asleep at 5am on a Tuesday morning on my way to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
Fortunately, everything went smoothly at the airport though the 23-hour flight (from KLIA via Hong Kong via Los Angeles and finally, Arizona) was a long and tiresome one.
After I landed, there were many things to sort out for my show. Thank goodness I have my brother and his family and a good friend who lives in the US to help me out with accommodation and other necessities.
On the second day, I met with the event director for a walk-through for a glimpse of what to expect on the day of the event.
From the visit, I was further encouraged as I am being able to pursue what I love to do most, that is expressing my artistic aspirations.
This showcase will bring my best creations together and I am just glad to be able to capture precious moments with my all-time favourite Canon EOS 70D.
Its high-performance system provides an incredible range of autofocus modes which enables me to shoot crisp and crystal clear moments, providing outstanding pictures .
There are many happenings, which I cannot possibly encapsulate in a single article. So I’ll save it for my next one, which will be after the showcase. Wish me luck!
