A year has 12 months but is there one month that is more dear to you than the others? Some people think their birthday month is special as they get to throw a party and celebrate with friends and relatives.
A month usually has 30 or 31 days. But February is a special month where there are 28 days, except for once in every four years, it has one extra day: the 29th. This extra day is called leap day.
Let’s hear what Starchild readers have to say on the topic, My Favourite Month.
Eight-year-old Saraneya Jay Kumar’s favourite month is May because her birthday falls on this month. “Since it was during the conditional movement control order period, we celebrated my birthday at home. My family and I ate pizza and watched movies together. This year, I had a Frozen-themed birthday cake.”
“I have many favourite months, which includes the start of the school term and my birthday month. I always love going back to school because I can meet my teachers and schoolmates. And I always look forward to learning new topics in school, ” says Erin Sonia Isitor, 11.
Nine-year-old Mabel Loo Jia Ting thinks October is fun because it’s Halloween. “Halloween is the time when there is a lot of decorations using pumpkins, witches and cats. A Halloween party is about wearing costumes and playing Trick-or-Treat. I love to receive treats which are candies.”
Chang Zhi En, 12, thinks October is unique because of Halloween. “Halloween is like a Western celebration of the Oriental All Souls Day. Although Halloween is not a traditional celebration in Asia, it has since become so commercialised.”
“My favourite month is December because it’s my birthday month. Christmas also falls in December and I can get many presents during this month, ” says Jane Ng Ai Wen, seven.
Five-year-old Kaira Anne Isitor says: “I like December. I can decorate the Christmas tree with my siblings and cousins. It’s really fun especially helping Daddy and Mummy wrap up presents.”
ITEM: Christmas is three weeks away. We know Christmas is near when the malls are decorated with Christmas decorations, reindeers and Santa Claus. There are more Christmas-themed movies on TV too.
