The mother of Breaking Bad star RJ Mitte revealed she was the one who found him after he died by suicide in Texas last week. He was 34 years old.

Mitte was discovered dead on Oct 12 inside his home in Brownsville. His mother, Dyna told NBC News she called him that morning, but he did not pick up. She added that it didn’t strike her as unusual given the fact that he often slept till noon.

“So I called him at 11,” Dyna said. “He didn’t answer, so I picked up lunch and went to take it to him, and that’s when I discovered him.”

He did not leave a note behind, she told NBC, and she believes his death was a “spur of the moment” decision. She added that while she had not been aware of his mental health struggles, a close friend of his recently disclosed to her some issues “that he was very hurt over.”

“For the last three months, I’d been offering for him to go to therapy, trying to get him to go there, but he was like, ‘No, I’ve got it. It’s OK. I’m handling it,'” Dyna said.

In hindsight, she wishes she had taken him to get help, even if he was “screaming and yelling.”

“We all go through heartbreak in our life and we all deal with it differently,” the grieving mother said. “If I had known anything and could have done anything different, I truly would have. I would have given my life for his life.”

Dyna also said she was speaking out about her loss in hopes that it will save someone from the same heartbreak in the future.

“If me speaking out today might save someone else from going through the same situation, because a mother should never have to find their child this way,” said Dyna. “If I can say one person is helped, I think that’s what RJ would expect.” – New York Daily News/TNS
