Years before the death of her son Presley Gerber, 27, supermodel Cindy Crawford reflected on the pain of losing a child.
In a 2010 interview with Britain's The Mirror, Crawford spoke about her mother’s experience after Crawford’s brother Jeffrey died at age four, saying she couldn’t imagine such loss, Entertainment Weekly reports.
“I can’t imagine the pain of losing a child. He was four when he died. He was sick for two years,” Crawford said at the time, speaking about how becoming a mother herself helped her appreciate her own mother’s resilience through tragedy.
Now, Crawford faces that unthinkable reality with authorities investigating his death as a suspected overdose.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner confirmed that Presley died at a rehabilitation facility, according to Entertainment Weekly.
An autopsy was completed on Monday (Sept 21), but the cause of death remains pending. The Santa Monica Police Department announced Monday that the death is being investigated as a suspected overdose.
“The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time,” a representative for the Crawford-Gerber family said in a statement on Sept. 20.
“Quiet moment before everything changed,” Presley wrote. “I was absolutely terrified, and I knew I would be again if I ever had to face something like this (helps to not go into the situations you do that get ya there but that’s life sometimes).”
Crawford and Rande Gerber, who married in 1998, are also parents to daughter Kaia Gerber.
