Reacher star Alan Ritchson and his wife, Catherine Ritchson, are splitting up two decades into their marriage.
“After twenty years together, Cat and I have decided to end our marriage and continue alongside one another in a different way,” the onetime high school and later college sweethearts announced in a joint Instagram post late Saturday, captioned with a single broken-heart emoji.
“We grew up together. We built a life and a family together. And we are raising three incredible boys who will always be the center of our world.”
Ritchson actually filed for divorce last December, TMZ reported, citing court documents. Their announcement comes after an attempted reconciliation in March, the outlet noted.
The two met as teens in a ballet class during high school, broke up, and then got back together during college, marrying in May 2006. They asked for privacy for their sons, Calem, 14, Edan, 13, and Amory, 10.
Ritchson has been open about his bipolar disorder diagnosis, a sex-assault trauma and a suicide attempt. In March he was caught on video in an altercation with a neighbour, though he said it was self-defense, and the neighbour eventually backed off.
The family lived somewhat nomadically for a few years starting in 2023, when the two sold their Florida home and went on the road along with Ritchson’s career, the actor told The Wall Street Journal in 2023.
“Nothing can diminish what these years have meant to us — or the love and respect we will always share,” the Ritchsons wrote.
“The best gift we can give one another — and our boys — right now is friendship, grace and a commitment to becoming the strongest co-parents we can be. We also want to give each other room to grow into the people we are becoming.”
The Smallvilleand Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles actor currently stars in Amazon Prime Video’s Reacher,which premiered in 2022 and is currently in its fourth season. The character is an ex-Army police officer who solves crimes while on the road. -New York Daily News/TNS
