Malaysian artiste Yasin Sulaiman has been discharged from Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta in Perak after spending more than four years at the psychiatric facility.
The news was announced by his friend Akbar Azmi, a member of nasyid group Brothers, in a Threads post on Wednesday (Aug 2).
"Alhamdulillah, finally, after more than four years, Yasin Sulaiman, better known as Yasin Brothers, has been allowed to return home from the hospital.
"Ya Allah, that was a long time. His children have also grown up. Alhamdulillah, he was supposed to serve 30 years and had previously been convicted and sentenced to prison," he said.
Akbar added that he had contacted Yasin, 50, to find out more about his current condition.
"He's on his way and is near Tapah. Wait for my latest update with him later. Insya-Allah, we are very happy," he said.
Yasin was arrested at his home in Kota Damansara in March 2022 after police found marijuana plants believed to be his, along with cultivation equipment and packets of marijuana leaves.
The Mimpi Laila singer, who has two children, was subsequently convicted of drug trafficking under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 at the Petaling Jaya Magistrate's Court.
In August 2024, the Shah Alam High Court sentenced Yasin to life imprisonment and 16 strokes of the cane after finding him guilty of three drug-related charges.
Yasin was acquitted and discharged by the Court of Appeal in April last year after medical reports and psychiatric evaluations confirmed that he had bipolar disorder.
He was subsequently ordered to be placed at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta, subject to the consent of the Sultan of Selangor.
