When Uqasha Senrose found out her co-star in Madu Atau Racun was going to be Aliff Aziz, she saw their collaboration as nothing more than work.
In March 2024, Aliff was at the centre of a marriage controversy after he was caught for khalwat with Terjerat co-star Ruhainies.
This led to his very public divorce from Malaysian singer-actress Bella Astillah, with whom he shares two children.
“Who am I to judge someone else’s personal life? I’m a sinner too and I’ve made mistakes too,” said Uqasha.
“Throughout filming, there were no issues and he remained professional.
“He came to the set, did his job. That’s what mattered to me. I never felt afraid or uncomfortable working with him. I don’t believe in rejecting someone’s rezeki (livelihood). This is his work, and this is my work.
“We were simply colleagues doing our jobs professionally,” the actress added.
In her personal life, Uqasha herself had just come off high-profile divorce proceedings with ex-husband, actor Kamal Adli.
She filed for divorce in October 2025, and the couple – who share a daughter – officially divorced in January 2026.
During the proceedings, Uqasha accused Kamal of domestic abuse, a claim he denied.
Madu Atau Racun is her second acting project since the personal upheaval, following TV3’s Bisik Asmara which aired early this year.
The 12- episode series centres on a polygamous marriage involving Adli (Aliff), Azura (Uqasha) and Nikita (Elisya Sandha).
Uqasha said she didn’t want to draw from her own personal experience to play Azura.
“If I brought my own personal feelings into the role, I don’t think I would have been able to portray Azura properly.
“Azura is her own person, and her story is very different from mine. I wanted to separate Uqasha from Azura,” she said firmly.
On the other hand, the 34-year-old said filming the series did take a toll on her, as her character goes through intense emotions, with many crying scenes.
In one scene, she is slapped and even dragged.
“There were times when I really felt Azura’s pain. She has gone through so much.
“Just as she’s getting over her past mistakes, and thinks she’s been given a second chance, she’s faced with another test.”
Uqasha continued: “What I like about this series is that no one is completely good or completely bad. Someone who appears kind may not actually be kind, and someone who seems cruel may have reasons behind their actions.
“That’s what drew me to Madu Atau Racun, it isn’t a typical Malay polygamy story,” she said.
On where she is in her own life at the moment, Uqasha said she is more focused on her own happiness, prioritising her work and daughter.
“Every difficult experience I’ve gone through has taught me something and helped me become more mature.
“Becoming a mother has made me realise that I have a responsibility that’s much bigger than myself,” she noted.
