Hong Kong acting legend Patrick Tse has died at the age of 89.

His passing was announced by his son, actor-singer Nicholas Tse, in an emotional Instagram post.

"It is with great sadness that I announce that my father, Patrick Tse, has passed away," he wrote.

Nicholas paid tribute to his father's lifelong dedication to the entertainment industry, saying he devoted his life to film and television with the hope of bringing joy and laughter to audiences.

The veteran actor was affectionately known as "Sei Gor" (Fourth Brother) in the industry.

Reflecting on his childhood, Nicholas recalled seeing his father go through difficult times, but said Patrick always remained committed to presenting his best self on screen.

"He often said, 'The show must go on.'

"So if you think of Sei Gor, if you think of my father, don't cry or be overly heartbroken.

"All we need to do is keep in our hearts the image of him forever full of charm, always smiling, and looking his very best. That will be enough."

Hong Kong media reported that Patrick died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, after his health had declined in recent years.

According to The Standard, Nicholas, who's currently in the middle of his Evolution Nic Live concert tour, returned to Hong Kong to handle the funeral arrangements.

His sister, Jennifer Tse Ting Ting, who lives in Canada with her family, also arrived in Hong Kong for the funeral.

It's reported Patrick was last seen publicly in late April when he met friends for coffee. Photos from the outing showed him in a wheelchair and looking noticeably thinner than before.

Patrick enjoyed a career spanning seven decades.

In 2022, he won Best Actor award at the Hong Kong Film Awards for Time, becoming the oldest recipient of the honour.

He came out of retirement to star in the film, in which he played a retired contract killer. He did not take on any further acting projects after that.
