Britney Spears has voluntarily entered a rehabilitation facility after she was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated in Los Angeles last March, with her representative stating that she’s “taking the right steps” to comply with authorities.

Spears was arrested in early March on suspicion of DUI per the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, then was released the next day. The singer is scheduled to appear in court on May 4 after her arrest.

“This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable. Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life,” the singer’s representative was quoted as saying.

The pop star’s representative hoped that she would “get the help that she needs” at this time.

“Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time. Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well-being,” the rep added.

This is not the first time Spears has checked into rehab. She entered rehabilitation facilities in 2007 and 2008 following a public breakdown and a custody battle with her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, respectively. She faced several mental health struggles later on and was even brought in for a psychiatric assessment.

The Baby One More Time hitmaker was also placed under conservatorship by her father, Jamie Spears, after her 2008 hospitalisation, thus making him the person in charge of her estate and finances.

Since the conservatorship was meant to be “temporary,” it sparked public outcry and the “Free Britney” movement after it was discovered that it took longer than it should have. She was eventually freed in September 2021. – Philippine Daily Inquirer/Asia News Network
