The comic and actor who voices Bob’s Burgers character Gene Belcher was hospitalised with serious injuries after being pulled from a burning car in New Hampshire, the United States.

Eugene Mirman’s 2026 Lucid Gravity burst into flames as it crashed into the Everett Turnpike’s Bedford Toll Plaza on March 31, according to TMZ.

New Hampshire Governor Kelly Ayotte reportedly helped a state trooper assigned to her security detail pull the 51-year-old performer out of his vehicle through a window. Mirman was rushed to an area hospital by ambulance.

Colonel Mark B. Hall told local station WCVB the officer’s actions saved Mirman’s life. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

In addition to recording more than 300 episodes of Fox’s Bob’s Burgers and a 2022 movie version of the animated series, Mirman’s voice work includes a 2018 credit on The Simpsons, according to IMDb.

He’s appeared on HBO programmes Last Week Tonight With John Oliver and Flight Of The Conchords.

WCVB said Mirman lives in Massachusetts, though a 2020 New York Times profile described him as an important part of the venerable Brooklyn comedy scene that took hold 20 years ago. He performed a recurring show in Park Slope that helped launch the careers of comedians including Oliver, John Mulaney and Zach Galifianakis.

Funnyman Bobcat Goldthwait described Mirman as “the drain in the sink that catches all the weirdos” in a documentary about that scene called It Started As A Joke.

Mirman lost his wife, Katie Westfall Tharp, to breast cancer in January 2020. – New York Daily News/Tribune News Service
