Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman is currently in Switzerland for an eight-day campaign shoot for a jewellery brand alongside actress Bella Astillah.
Syed Saddiq said the brand partnerships, which involve a photoshoot and video campaign, have become a vital financial lifeline, helping him cover mounting legal fees as his case heads to the Federal Court.
“With this new opportunity as a brand ambassador, I can at least pay for my legal fees,” he said, adding that the income allows him to continue funding his defence without relying on political influence.
The former youth and sports minister said he had initially struggled to meet the costs of his ongoing court battle.
Although the government lost its case against him at the Court of Appeal, it has since appealed the decision, leaving him to shoulder his own legal expenses.
“But Alhamdulillah, Allah works in miraculous ways. When one door closes, ten others open,” he wrote.
Syed Saddiq described the past week as an emotional rollercoaster, beginning with yet another court appearance as the government sought to overturn the appellate court’s unanimous 3–0 ruling in his favour.
“My integrity is not for sale. I have never delayed the trial, never negotiated my freedom with political masters and never lost faith that Malaysia is worth fighting for,” he said.
Earlier, from the court, Syed Saddiq travelled straight to Muar, where he said he remains committed to serving his constituents despite not receiving any federal welfare allocation.
Public support, he noted, has helped him raise millions for the area, including a recent contribution of RM2.5mil.
“I feel like crying,” he wrote.
Now braving subzero temperatures in Switzerland, Syed Saddiq ended his message by asking Malaysians to keep him in their prayers.
“The cold pierces to the core,” he said. - Sinar Daily
