Following a seven-year estrangement, Meghan Markle has finally made contact with her ailing father.

The embattled Duchess of Sussex resorted to taking extra measures to reach Thomas Markle, following his public pleas. The 81-year-old reportedly underwent an emergency lower leg amputation on Dec 3 in the Philippines.

A spokesperson for Markle, who lives in California with husband Prince Harry and their two children, confirmed to BBC and People that she had a letter delivered to her dad’s hospital bed.

“With the support of reliable and trusted contacts, her correspondence is now safely in his hands,” the statement read, explaining the difficulty Meghan has had trying to connect with him privately.

“Given that a Daily Mail reporter has remained at her father’s bedside throughout, broadcasting each interaction and breaching clear ethical boundaries, it has been exceedingly difficult for the Duchess to contact her father privately, despite her efforts over the past several days,” the spokesperson noted.

The former Suits star does not have Thomas’ phone number, according to People magazine. Thomas also reportedly is not in possession of his phone while he remains hospitalised and his 59-year-old son, Thomas, Jr., has been exclusively making comments about his health status to British tabloids.

The father and daughter have been on the outs since she married Prince Harry in 2018.

The former lighting director, who had two heart attacks in 2018 before Harry and Meghan’s wedding, threatened to sue the runway royals to gain access to his grandchildren – Archie and Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor — in 2021.
