Brad Everett Young, an actor, photographer and arts education proponent, was killed in a car crash this week.

Young, 46, was driving alone on a freeway in Los Angeles on Sunday night when his car was struck by a vehicle going in the wrong direction, his publicist, Paul Christensen, said in a statement.

He died at the scene and the other driver was hospitalised.

Young was born in Danville, Virginia in 1979. He worked on school newspapers and magazines as a writer, photographer and graphic designer throughout high school and college before heading to Los Angeles.

As an actor, Young appeared on shows such as Boy Meets World, Grey’s Anatomy and movies like Love & Basketball, Charlie’s Angels, Jurassic Park III and The Artist.

He also was a celebrity photographer, frequently working premieres and awards shows as well as photo shoots for outlets like Vanity Fair, Vogue, Elle and Harper’s Bazaar. He had more than 2 million followers on Instagram, where he shared his portraits.

“LA was just the place where I could make those decisions with all the job opportunities the town offered,” he said in a 2015 interview with the Chatham Star-Tribune. “In the first month here, I went out on my first audition for a TV series, booked it, joined the Screen Actors Guild, and the rest was history.

“I absolutely fell in love with everything in this business and the journey and strength it takes to accomplish what you want in it.”

Young also founded Dream Loud Official, an organisation dedicated to strengthening arts and music education nationwide.

“I don’t know what I would have done had I not had the programmes growing up,” Young told said in the 2015 interview. “They taught me so much that I use in my life every single day. They allowed me to express myself in art and in life.”

He is survived by a brother, Chris. – New York Daily News/Tribune News Service
