Chinese actress Fan Bingbing hints of a return to Melaka in September, hopes to bring 'more good news' for the state

International film actress, Fan Bingbing has hinted that she will return to Melaka in September for some "new work".

"I also hope to bring more good news for Melaka,” she told reporters briefly at Seri Negeri here today after she was conferred the Darjah Pangkuan Seri Melaka (DPSM) award that carries the title "Datuk" in conjunction with the 76th birthday celebrations of Yang Dipertua Negeri Melaka Tun Mohd Ali Rustam.

Fan was appointed Melaka Friendship Tourism Ambassador last year and her three-day visit in June 2024 managed to stimulate the state’s tourism sector with 1.2 billion searches about her and Melaka.

Fan, who has about 63 million followers on Weibo (a Chinese social media platform similar to X) and 4.1 million followers on Instagram, is usually associated with Chinese culture at the global level.

Besides starring in Chinese films, her acting credits include the Hollywood superhero film, X-Men: Days Of Future Past, along with French and Korean films.

She has also graced the cover of Time magazine in 2017 and was named as one of the 100 Most Influential People. – Bernama
