More than a year after becoming husband and wife, British actress Millie Bobby Brown and American model-actor Jake Bongiovi are now taking on the role of parents.

The young couple announced on Instagram on Aug 21 that they have adopted their first child together.

“This summer, we welcomed our sweet baby girl through adoption,” they wrote in the post. “We are beyond excited to embark on this beautiful next chapter of parenthood in both peace and privacy.”

Brown, 21, and Bongiovi, 23, tied the knot secretly in a private ceremony in the United States in May 2024 before sharing photos of a bigger wedding reception and ceremony in Italy on social media in October 2024.

The lovebirds began dating in 2021 and announced their engagement in 2023.

Brown shot to fame playing a psychokinetic girl named Eleven in the hit Netflix science-fiction series Stranger Things (2016 to present), while Bongiovi is best known as the son of American rocker Jon Bon Jovi, 63.

Brown previously spoke about wanting to be a young mother in an episode of the Smartless podcast in March while promoting the Netflix science-fiction action-adventure film The Electric State (2025).

“My mum actually had her first child at 21, and my dad was 19,” she said, referring to her parents Robert and Kelly Brown. “It’s been my thing since before I met Jake ... I wanted to be a mum just like the way my mum was to me.”

She continued: “I really want a big family. I’m one of four. He’s one of four. It is definitely in our future. But, for me, I don’t see having your own child as really any different as in adopting.”

Millie Bobby Brown has an older sister, Paige; an older brother, Charlie; and a younger sister, Ava. Bongiovi has an older sister, Stephanie; an older brother, Jesse; and a younger brother Romeo.

The star also revealed in an interview with magazine Vanity Fair in February that she has discussed several serious issues including parenthood with Bongiovi.

“We talked about our political views, what kind of family we want to build, the kind of home we want to live in, the kind of relationship we’re looking for, the kind of careers we want,” she said in the cover story. “It’s such an important decision, and we wanted to make sure we were making the right one. I knew I was. It always felt right with him.”

Brown will reprise her breakthrough role in the fifth and final season of Stranger Things. The first four episodes will be released on Nov 26, three episodes
on Christmas and the final episode
on New Year’s Eve.

She will also be back on the small screen as fictional detective Sherlock Holmes’ younger sister Enola in the third instalment of Netflix’s mystery-adventure film series Enola Holmes (2020 to present), and will also star in the streamer’s upcoming romantic comedy movie Just Picture It. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
