Hong Kong rock star Danny Summer, who has gone through four divorces, recently opened up his past marriages.
In an interview with media personality Stephen Chan, Summer, 72, revealed that one of his marriages was never legally registered.
“There was one time we didn’t sign any official papers. I’ve never mentioned this before. We just married by performing traditional rites at that time,” he said.
Summer’s first marriage was at just 17, to his high school classmate. Although it ended a decade later, he remains on good terms with his ex-wife and their two daughters.
His second marriage, to an American woman, lasted only three years. In 1987, Summer wed a woman named Bibi, but they divorced in 2003. His fourth and final marriage was to a wealthy Vietnamese heiress, which lasted eight years.
In the interview, Summer admitted to cheating during one of his marriages, blaming it on a lack of self-control at the time.
He recalled one of his relationships ending as they rushed into marriage without really knowing each other. When the initial spark faded, problems surfaced, and the union fell apart.
“It comes down to self-restraint, and I didn’t have enough. I’ve been through it … Today, I marry you, and when I meet someone prettier next week, then what? I’ve experienced this before. It isn’t right. You’re treating your partner wrong,” he said.
Now older and more reflective, Summer said he has since turned over a new leaf – learning from past mistakes how to be a better partner.
The Never Give Up hitmaker is currently dating a woman 36 years his junior. They have been together for 15 years.
“I’ve done many things in the past but not anymore. I know what’s wrong and don’t do those things anymore,” he said.
When asked if he planned to marry his current girlfriend, Summer said he’s content with their relationship as it is, adding: “Getting married again means holding another banquet, so no thanks!”
