At a recent event in Hong Kong, actress Crystal Fung addressed rumours of a falling-out with fellow beauty queen and friend Louisa Mak.

The 31-year-old, who was crowned Miss Hong Kong in 2016, firmly denied the claims. Mak, 33, won the same title a year earlier in 2015.

According to Fung, the misunderstanding began when a reporter asked if she had visited Mak and met her newborn. She replied that she hadn’t yet, which sparked speculation of a rift.

“A group of us have a chat group and we’re planning to meet up next month for dinner to celebrate my birthday. We’re still coordinating the dates,” she said, as translated by Jaynestars.

While she admitted they haven’t seen each other in over half a year, Fung attributed this to Mak’s busy schedule following her marriage and the birth of her child.

“She’s been really busy. We’re trying to arrange a get-together where she can see everyone at once, instead of having to meet us one by one,” she explained, stressing there’s no tension between them.

Both women have recently entered the education sector, but Fung dismissed any notion of rivalry.

“We’re focused on different areas – Louisa is specialising in early childhood education, while I am focusing on emotional support for primary and secondary students and their parents,” she said, adding that she had just come from giving a talk at a secondary school.

When asked if their friendship had changed, Fung replied simply: “Our friendship hasn’t changed at all.”
