Hong Kong actor Wong He, who revealed on social media in January that he was diagnosed with kidney failure, recently claimed his condition might be linked to two suspected sexual assaults that took place in Taiwan in 2024.

The 57-year-old said on his YouTube channel on May 12 that he believed he was drugged and sexually assaulted on two separate occasions.

Wong, known for his outspoken political views, moved from Hong Kong to London in 2021 before migrating to Taiwan in October that same year.

The former TVB star recounted in the recent videos that he was at a friend’s home in Hsinchu county in Taiwan on July 15, 2024, when the first sexual assault allegedly took place.

“I found myself lying prone early in the morning and felt suffocated,” he said in Cantonese. “I wanted to get up, but felt an external force pressing on me. I struggled for a while before losing consciousness.”

Wong said he did not know how long he was unconscious, but found himself alone on the floor when he woke up in the morning, with aches all over his body. He went to the living room and found his friend using the mobile phone and behaving like nothing had happened.

The friend asked him if he wanted to have breakfast and insisted that Wong take the 8.25am Taiwan High Speed Rail train home. The friend then dropped him off at a place quite far away from the train station. When Wong returned home, he took photos of himself with the bruises on his body.

Wong said the second incident took place at the home of two friends on Dec 10, 2024. He claimed he lost consciousness after having a bowl of red bean soup for supper.

He found himself pressed on a bed when he woke up and heard his two friends telling him not to move. He blacked out again and woke up the next morning to find himself naked on the bed. There were also bruises on his body, including on his knees.

Wong thought he had soiled the bed and offered to compensate his two friends, who behaved as if nothing had happened.

Wong went to the hospital later to seek treatment, but was prescribed only painkillers and did not get to consult the doctors. He returned to the hospital a day or two later after he continued feeling unwell and was hospitalised.

He was told on Dec 14, 2024, that he had rhabdomyolysis, a condition where injured muscles break down rapidly and which can lead to organ damage. Wong said he believed the condition led to his kidney failure.

Wong is best known for his role as a firefighter in the action drama trilogy Burning Flame (1998 to 2009). He has not been active in the entertainment industry in recent years.

He sparked health concerns in December 2024 when he shared a photo of himself lying in a hospital bed. He did not reveal the nature of his condition at that time. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
